Voltaire said it best when he, circa early 18th century, quipped, “Satire lies about literary men while they live and eulogy lies about them when they die.” I say, if you don’t appreciate satire, you are almost certain to soon find yourself its object.

As to humor, we’ll rely on Aristotle who wisely stated, “Humor is the only test of gravity, and gravity of humor; for a subject which will not bear raillery is suspicious, and a jest which will not bear serious examination is false wit.”
